Portrait of Steven van Herwijck
Sale
Anthonis Mor van Dashorst (1564)
With his hand elegantly at his side, Steven van Herwijck looks at us. With his other hand he points to some gold jewelry on the table; Van Herwijck was a medal cutter, medallion maker and goldsmith. He was originally from Utrecht, but later worked in Antwerp. The portrait was painted by Anthonis Mor, who also lived in Utrecht and Antwerp. Mor painted lifelike portraits, in which he often depicted his patrons in three-quarters.
