Portrait of Aegje Hasselaer, wife of Henrick Hooft
Sale
Michiel Jansz van Mierevelt (1640)
Portrait of Aegje Hasselaer, wife of Henrick Hooft. Half the body, to the left. When the Hooft–Hasselaer couple had painted their portrait in 1640, the painter, Van Mierevelt, was already 74 years old. Following a tried and tested formula, he depicted them turned towards each other and evenly lit, with lavish attention paid to the details of their expensive clothing. At that time, Van Mierevelt was assisted by his grandson Jacob Willemsz Delff, who helped out on this likeness as well.
