Master of the Brandon Portrait (previously attributed to) Portrait of a Man with Samson Medal
Sale
Anonymus (1515 - 1530)
Between his thumb and forefinger, this unknown man holds a red carnation. His facial features are harshly painted, with no smooth transitions. The red headgear with flaps and black ribbons is striking. The medal on the front flap, which sparkles in the light, depicts Samson fighting the lion. Although the painter's name is unknown, it was possible to date the portrait, as this kind of hat gear was popular after 1515.
