Still life with a silver jug Sale

Willem Kalf (1655 - 1660)

Willem Kalf did not paint the most common Asian objects that circulated in the Republic, but often chose rare objects that were already decades old. Sometimes he combined elements of different objects. For example, the decoration on the inside of this bowl is typical of hooded seals (bowls with a flat edge) earlier in the century, while the decoration on the outside is based on a contemporary piece of porcelain.
