Throne of a man with a feathered beret Sale

Rembrant van Rijn (1635 - 1640)

A man turns his head to the right and looks over his shoulder at us. He is strikingly decked out in a feathered beret and a gold-embroidered cloak. The light falls brightly on his face and makes the metal of his ring collar shine beautifully. The painting is not a portrait but a tronie, a head of character. In this case, of a soldier, who is dressed in his 'antiks'. Rembrandt did not sign the painting with RHL (Rembrandt Harmenszoon Leydensis), as he had done for a long time, but only with his first name.
