Still life with a bouquet in the making
Sale
Dirck de Bray (1674)
This flower still life is unlike any other, because the bouquet is not yet finished. The vase is only half full and some of the flowers are still on the table. Also unusual is the fact that the flowers depicted are from the same season: anemones, tulips, daffodils and columbine all bloom in spring. Dirck de Bray came from a family of artists in Haarlem. He painted few works, but this still life shows that he was a very skilled painter.
