Splendid Still Life Sale

Abraham van Beyeren (1655)

Abraham van Beyeren was a still-life specialist through and through. He painted many lavish still lifes with precious objects such as silver bowls, fine glassware and Chinese porcelain. The loose brushstrokes with which he painted his still lifes are striking – normally they would have been painted much more precisely to properly represent the different materials.
Among all the wealth, Van Beyeren also painted himself. In the reflection of the silver jug, he can be seen painting behind his easel.
