Ships in the Roads I Sale

Willem de Velde de Jonge (1658)

Willem van de Velde the Younger often painted seascapes with a low horizon, windless weather and large cumulus clouds that stand out against the blue sky. The slack sails provide an atmospheric play of light and shadow. Centrally located here is a richly decorated yacht with the Dutch flag. Cargo ships have anchored around it and some rowing boats are sailing, transporting passengers to and from shore.
